The standing stones of Calanais
A phenomenal site, 5,000 years old, complex, mysterious and silent.

The Broch at Carloway
A broch dating back 2,000 years to the iron age, constructed in the form and strength of a defensive fortress. The precise role in history of this circular dry-stone fortified tower remains a mystery. A subterranean visitors centre has recently been built adjacent to the broch which promotes a greater understanding of the site history and the daily lives of its inhabitants.

The gloomy, peat-smoke filled interior of the Blackhouse at Arnol. A traditional Lewis thatched cottage with a fire in the middle of the floor. Lewis folk lived in houses similar to this style over many centuries with the family at one end and a byre for the cattle at the other.
There are numerous other historic sights to visit including Saint Clemens Church - an ancient well preserved church at Rodel in Harris, containing the remains of Alasdair Crotach Macleod in his 16th century tomb.

The central stones at Calanais
There are several other ancient sites worthy of visiting and many areas of natural beauty including areas which provided a stunning backdrop to tales from our more recent past.
