Travelling in Lewis and Harris

Bus services run regularly connecting Stornoway and Tarbert with all villages throughout the islands. Bus timetables are available from the local Tourist Information Office. Stornoway is 34 miles north of Tarbert (approximately 45mins travelling by road).

Transport to the surf can easily be arranged and most days the surf vehicle travels to the most likely breaks. Travelling with your own or a hired vehicle is very relaxing and enjoyable with a good road network and little traffic outwith the town of Stornoway. Some roads are single track so remember to use passing places for overtaking etc.

In Lewis and Harris all place names and direction signs are in Gaelic. A comprehensive bi-lingual map is available from the local Tourist Information Office for around £3.95. Hebridean Surf Holidays have some copies of this map but please do not remove them from the premises.

Delivery service - Woody's Express Parcels will transport your board to Stornoway or Ullapool, same day or next day delivery for around £10.00 depending on your board length. If you use this service ensure that you leave sufficient time to deliver the board to the carrier or for them to pick up your board at the bus station or train station.

Cycling

Hebridean Surf Holidays have a number of sturdy bikes for hire and this is an ideal method of travelling, free of your baggage, around the historic sites and monuments.
